Cafes, Tearooms & Snack Bars around Whitehall

Yumchaa Soho

45 Berwick St, Soho, London W1F 8SF, UK

Loads of interesting teas and really helpful staff. A nice choice of caffeine free varieties too. The iced option is great for hot weather.

Always friendly staff. Great selection of teas and a gluten free banana and chocolate loaf to die for! Make sure to ask for it to be toasted! They also have a blue tea that changes colour when you add lemon to it. Not everyone's cup of tea but worth trying once. Good place for 1-2-1 catch ups and, indeed, frequented by local office workers.

Amanzi Tea

24 New Cavendish St, Marylebone, London W1G 8TX, UK

Nice variety of teas, has a small outdoor seating and a downstairs. Nice and causal. Staff were friendly. Homely feel

The perfect place for sitting down and getting some work done. Huge selection of tea, free and easy to connect to WiFi, and a good amount of seating. Additionally, the staff is very friendly. When I selected some of the more "out-there" teas they offered a cashier said I should smell it first and after making it said that if I didn't enjoy it she would make another one. There were two downsides I noticed. There were not many power outlets (only two accessible in the building) so if you needed one and it was busy you'd be hard-pressed to get access to one. Additionally the music is a little loud, although not enough to bleed through a nice pair of headphones. I took a few calls while there and received comments about the background noise of the place even when there was no conversation going on around me. A trade-off for atmosphere vs a long-term work solution.

The English Rose Cafe and Tea Shop

4 Lower Grosvenor Pl, Westminster, London SW1W 0EJ, UK – 020 7976 6280

Quaint spot close to Victoria train station. Staff were happy to make me a vegetarian English breakfast. They offer afternoon tea as well as meals. In and outdoor seating for small groups. Larger groups sit in the back. I think the staff could be a bit more cheery but other than that I would recommend for breakfast!

A lovely little tea shop behind Buckingham palace on a small but busy street. The food is good and cakes/treats look good. The cafe is deep so sitting in back may be the place to be rather than listen to heavy traffic from outside or the window area.

Great British Fish and Chips

Westminster Bridge Rd, Lambeth, London SE1 7PB, UK – 020 7928 3019

Greatly surprised by the quality of the fish and chips here. We needed somewhere to eat quickly and close to County Hall. This fit the bill. Service was super quick and we were shown to a newly cleaned table. Staff are efficient. Only negative is the lack of proper cutlery. The plastic knife & fork weren't great - nor good for the environment as they weren't recycled.

We had the fish and.chips, chicken and chips, and chicken sandwich. All tasted delicious to our American tastes buds (if you like thick fries). Service was efficient and friendly. Liked that they found us seats so we didn’t have to navigate the awkward need to share a table where others are already sitting.

Ben's Fish and Chips

200 Shaftesbury Ave, London WC2H 8JL, UK – 020 7240 3348

When you are in London, don't forget to eat your best Fish and Chips here! My family and I are lovers of Fish and Chips. We tried almost all the restaurants that served this dish in London and this is our conclusion - Ben's is the best! The Turkish cook (its partner) is especially friendly and hospitable. The co-partner's 16 years old daughter who helps out the father is sweet and gentle and she will make your day. Well done Ben's.

Awesome fish and chips. I recommend the Cod and chips with curry sauce. Really fresh and not greasy. Great venue, lovely attentive service with a smile. You can eat in and get table service. Alcohol on the menu. Cool decor, nice and clean. One of the best places to stop by for a bite to eat in a very central location. Perfect for a pre/post theatre snack or just because!

Lee's fish and chips

151 Lambeth Walk, Lambeth, London SE11 6EE, UK – 020 7582 9318

Lee's is now under new management so do disregard old reviews. It is now clean and bright, and the staff are welcoming and polite. I had a large cod and chips for £6.80. Not cheap, but the fish was excellent and the portion was generous. Be interested to see what the medium is like by comparison. They also do pies, saveloys, haddock, fishcakes... all your classics!

Now under new management and opening times are much better and you can now sit in. The staff are very polite and friendly and the food is good.

Sandwich Bars, Deliveries & Lunchtime Snack Outlets around Whitehall

Master's Sandwich Bar

53 Great Portland St, Marylebone, London W1W 7LG, UK – 020 7631 0780

Amazing sandwich for the price, took 2 as I though 1 wouldn't be enough, but after eating just 1 was already full. Service was really fast even though there were a few people ahead of me. Great place with great prices.

This one of the best places to eat in London. The food is to die for. They have an amazing selection. Sandwiches, Salads, pastas and they make a great healthy breakfast. Always served with a smile. Forgot all the typical garbage chains, this is the place to nourish your body with great food.

Warren's Sandwich Bar

13 Warren St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 5LH, UK – 020 7387 8836

I really miss this place, used to go there for lunch quite a lot a couple of years ago, went back recently and it's just the same! Friendly happy food is great very good value for money what more can you ask for...oh and the coffee is brilliant. Not really a place to try and eat in, it's best to take away and sit outside in the square about a minute around the corner.

Love this cafe! Portion sizes are generous - you never feel hungry after lunch from here. Be aware it can get really busy at peak lunch so aim to go early. Small seating area inside, but you're best grabbing food then heading round to one of the local gardens and enjoying your food there.

Mayfair Pasta & Sandwich Bar

61 Davies St, Mayfair, London W1K 5JT, UK – 020 7629 4095

I've been eating here for a few year, both take-away and eat-in. The food is really delicious. The cafe may not look that great on the outside but the food makes up for it. I took a few friends here, over the years and they all agree that the food is really good. Prices are also very affordable for a Mayfair lunch so great before payday! I totally agree with the statement that staff are not that nice, apart from the tall guy who I think is an owner - he's always nice to me. Overall I still recommended this place for its food!

Great food , great staff

Food was Good, hot and fast. Woman who served me polite. Would order again if was in area, delivered to my room.

Nice restaurant, take away always ok and on time. Food nothing special.

Yum Yum

28 Denbigh St, Pimlico, London SW1V 2ER, UK – 020 7821 1288

Really disappointing, we oredered a special fried rice and a chicken chow mein, both were really dry and quite bkand

Sam's Chinese Express

61 Red Lion St, London, Holborn WC1R 4PD, UK – 020 7405 4084

Meal deal is a real deal. Not just called "meal deal" but not actually a deal. This is the real deal. Go for the meal deal. Better than just getting a meal. Really. You get mini spring rolls and a can of pop.

It's cheap, fast, decently sized and has plenty of options. The meal deal with a drink, spring rolls and a meal are good value. Food is not the most authentic Chinese, but for the speed and price it's a great spot for lunch. There is limited inside seating, though you can normally find a seat. Best to get takeaway

Indian Takeaways

Oval Tandoori

64A Brixton Rd, London SW9 6BP, UK – 020 7582 1415

Very nice owner and a 5 🌟 service. Food was also well balanced and flavoured with fresh ingredients.

On holiday in London Brixton, we wanted to have Indian food. We went to Oval Tandoori by chance and we were not disappointed at all. Thank you for the advice, the children and we loved the food.

The Southbank Tandoori

39 The Cut, South Bank, London SE1 8LF, UK – 020 7261 1523

I am just about to leave after a top class service from start to finish. I walked in and was greeted and shown a table. Ordered a drink and meal and within minutes the starter was there. Hot and well presented. Main come after. Plenty of chicken and stunning taste. Ice cream for after and a cold beer. Top little indian and I would come here again when I work down here again. Too marks for this place. Well worth a try. You will not be disappointed. Well done staff. One happy customer.

I had the King Prawn Pathia. The prawns were most certainly king size and there was plenty of them too. Nice and spicy without being so hot the taste is destroyed. Lovely.

Ruby Murray

1 Lever St, Clerkenwell, London EC1V 3QU, UK – 020 7250 1501

It is ok but not great. Prices fairly good for the area, but in the grand scheme its pretty expensive given the quality is not much better than fast food. Portions are typically small and food a bit dry.

Really good indian must recommend 👌🏽

Takeaway Food

LEON

35 Great Marlborough St, Carnaby, London W1F 7JE, UK – 020 7734 8057

I love Leon. The food is amazing. But here's my biggest issue, the price. The price is what stops me going to Leon as often as I'd like. The food again, it's so good. It's clean, simple but really really tasty. As a body builder, I appreciate when clean food is also super tasty. But the amount you get just doesn't justify the price of it. I've paid £18 for one box meal, one small vegan box meal, and a wrap before. Typing this out, that doesn't sound so bad, but what is inside the box is what makes it bad. A small cut up chicken breast with a decent amount of rice, for something over £8? If you doubled the amount of chicken in that box then I'd be fine. But to get extra chicken you pay almost £4.... Why?... Leon, if you lowered your prices, or at least gave more in your boxes, larger portions, then this would be a 5 star review. Because as far as taste goes, you're a 10/10

Leon is a very popular chain in London. I dont know why but I had not been in one in several years. They have a fresh original take on fast food. I had a chicken burger and fries. The prices are very reasonable and they have a strong following among locals and tourists. this is a great place for vegans or vegetarians as well due to the diverse menu. Great for eat in or takeaway

LEON

5-6 Moorgate, London EC2M 6XB, UK – 020 7374 2094

Tasty Mediterranean inspired food. Good gluten free and vegan options. Great to grab a meal and go

Nice clean welcoming foyer. We had coffee and cake there and bought salads to take away. The attentive staff gave me advice on the best 'soft product' for my mother. As the lady realised that we were snacking in house and then taking other products away she kept them refrigerated and asked me to just remind her when we were on our way out. Prices are reasonable considering the products. Really impressed with the staff!

Leon

86 Cannon St, London EC4N 6HT, UK – 020 7623 9699

Leon is the vegan vegetarian and gluten free people best friend ! Amazing tasty food inside and not long to wait.

Nice place to grab lunch. Very healthy options. Bit pricey for what it offers but is very nice. My favourite would always be chicken Sicilian balls. Very filling. Can't always make sure you will have a place to sit though. Is quite a busy branch so despite lots of seats there are lots of footprints.
